Experimentation with Type and Image

Progressing from looking at women's legs and creating this as a typeface. I went on to looking at women's lingerie and how I could create this in letterform. So with the drawings I created I applied them to letters to create type.

This is how it came out.

Once I had put my drawings into the letter it didnt come across to me as flirtatious as sexy which is what I am trying to show. It looks like it would appeal more to a women's audience something that you would see in a lingerie or clothes shop.

I want to come away from this and carry on using women's body parts and features as I think this shows more of a sexy and flirtatious theme.

Experimenting with message

Flirtatious typeface vectored

I think this works so much better, better then the past designs it looks alot more stronger and the letter form is really clear and there isn't to much going on with the design. It's a nice solid black typeface making it look striking and bold and easy to read.

Flirtatious type with stockings

As well as experimenting with foiling, I thought about adding more detail to the legs by thinking about adding stockings and tights. Looking at the two one without the stockings and the other without I stuck the up on the wall to see which design was more legiable and eyecatching. Asking my piers also for their advice they agreed with me and said the design without the stockings because the type with the stockings took away the definition of the form of the letter and it looked to black.

What was also mentioned was that a girl from my course last year did something similar to the type that I have made which was quite gutting as I thought this typeface worked really well, but instead of getting rid of it I thought around ways of how I could change it to make it look different. Making it a starting point to expand on.

Experimentation with foil

For an experimentation purpose, I foiled the shoes of the typeface and then tried foiling the whole letter. I used the foil process because I wanted the letters to stand out and have this glamorous and quality look to it. It was quite hard to foil the exact shape of the shoe without touching the leg but in a way I think it works quite well, but the only doubt I have about it is when the type is being displayed at a large scale on a billboard the quality of the foil will not be able to be shown at a long distance.

Flirtatious typography

One of the first ideas that I had was to create a typeface out of Women's legs. I think this works really well and is visually interesting and gives off quite a sexual exposed feel to the design. The drawings need a bit more experimentation on them to make them look a bit more realistic and more interesting so that I work with them to put them into context. I chose to have red shoes as it is a colour that stood out against the black line drawings and to add a bit of detail.

Looking at creating my own typeface

Looking at Bacardi I thought about what I was interested and what I felt I was good at doing which is typography so I took my skills and experimented with them. I looked at creating my own type face illustrating the letters to look as though they were like liquid to demonstrate the drink Bacardi.

From doing this it didnt say to me straight away flirtatious which is what I am trying to say it just says letters to me. The concept behind this I don't think is strong enough to work well to promote Bacardi to men.

I thought about what I could do for a while and researched into what men like to see on adverts from the research I started to look at the pin up girl and other Bacardi adverts etc this is where my ideas began....still using typography I wanted to create my own image of using the female figure to create a typeface that creates a sexual and flirtatious feel to it, because looking at previous Bacardi adverts they all have a lot of exposed women in them this is also another reason why I have chosen to concentrate on the female figure because we all know that sex sells and the majority of men what to see the exposure of women or parts of their body.

Initial Ideas and thoughts of Bacardi

My first thoughts of the Bacardi brief was that I wanted to use the female figure and parts of the body to create a sense of flirtatious. The reason for this was because my target audience is the young 18-24 males who are fun and outgoing etc so I thought what makes men interested in looking at an advert or an image what makes them look and its normally a woman or a naked woman, sex sells so I thought incorporating the woman figure somehow making it tasteful and not showing to much of a woman I thought this would be appealing to the male audience.

I also looked into using flirtatious language also and how I could promote this to the male audience.
I researched into the different ways of flirting and how people flirt with each other and what feelings it gives to one another. This then gave me more of an idea of relating this to the female figure but more research needed to be taken.
I then looked at Bacardi it self and what it offers such as the different flavours of drinks and I thought how I could associate this to the flirtatious theme. I then wanted to focus on where I wanted my designs to be situated this also helped for what I was going to design this is where I started to brainstorm and draw ideas and collect research of what I was interested in for this brief.
